Megan Floyd

MEET MEGAN FLOYD! Many of you know her as a Manager of Kid to Kid consignment shop in Johns Creek. Megan started working at Kid to Kid when she turned 16 and still loves it.  She is also a figure skating coach and knows American Sign Language.  Megan is delightful, ambitious and thoroughly enjoys Johns Creek.

Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?

A: What’s interesting about my current career is that it began as my very first job 10 years ago. I went into Kid to Kid and applied before they even opened. I didn’t think they’d hire me because I had just turned 16. I filled out the application and here I am 10 years later, still working here and loving it. I plan to possibly open my own store one day.

Q:  You recently received some awards with Kid to Kid, can you tell me more about that?

A:  Last year, my store won The Store of the Year Award. We were chosen out of almost a hundred Kid to Kid stores. I was just totally shocked because our store moved to another location and expanded. It was just the coolest thing and the highest award in our franchise. When I was the manager at the Cumming store, it also received Store  of the Year. It’s very cool that I can now say that both of my stores have been Store of the Year out of a hundred stores.

Q:  What do you think it took to make Store of the Year?

A:  A lot of hard work, a lot of attention to detail and having an amazing team of people who worked together to achieve great things. The owner and I worked side by side, planning, casting a vision, and then implementing it!

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Johns Creek, and what do you love there?

The best restaurant so far that I found is the “Ten Bistro” which is right down the road from work. They have a Filet Mignon sandwich that’s delicious!

Q: How long have you lived or worked in Johns Creek?

A: I’ve worked in Johns Creek for 2 ½ years and prior to that I was in Cumming for 7 ½ years.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Johns Creek?

A: I would say all of the customers that I come into contact with every day. Everyone you meet in Johns Creek is very diverse and come from all walks of life. That’s why I like it so much…I come in contact with all sorts of customers everyday.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?  And why?

A: I think right now would be the beach, just any beach in the world. I would really like go to another country though because I’ve only been out of the country once.

Q: What is your favorite movie OR what is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?

A: That’s a tough one. I think the first movie I remember seeing in the theater was Monsters Inc.  Monsters Inc. is still one of my favorites.

Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?

A: Always remember to smile, you may not know the person standing next to you or what they are going through. When you smile, just say hi to somebody, or hold the door for them when they aren’t expecting it, you can make a huge difference in their day. You never know what somebody is going through; just that small act of kindness may turn their day around.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

A: When I was younger, I was a figure skater and wanted to go the Olympics. The Lord had a different plan for me, so right now I would say just traveling in general. I’m getting to a point where I want to experience different cultures and do different things …experience new things in life.

Q: What is your favorite music/band you would like to see?

A: I grew up as a figure skater and you could not have music with words for your skating programs so I only listened to Classical and New Age music. My favorite band would have to be “Cusco”; most people have never heard of it, but it’s a mix between instrumental and New Age type of music. It is similar to Lindsey Stirling. They would be really cool to hear live!

Q: What current/former local business makes you the most nostalgic about Johns Creek?

A: I’m still relatively new to the area so I’m excited to continue to learn and explore more of Johns Creek.

Q: Choosing anyone alive and a non-relative: with whom would you love to have lunch?  Why?  Where in Johns Creek would you have lunch?

Q: I would say, it would not be a necessarily a specific person but anybody who has gone great places. So that could be a previous president or a leader like Steve Jobs. There is someone who would be awesome to meet. Meg Rose who is deaf Christian artist. She interprets music and she is also a song writer. She is extremely talented, and it would be really cool to meet her!

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Johns Creek?

There is a lot of green space like at Perimeter Church across the street. Even though I have to drive through all the traffic to get here, everything is just gorgeous on my drive in and out of Johns Creek. It’s very pretty.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?

In the next 2 years, I will to graduate from college. I’ve been working on my Business Marketing Degree and then after that I’m not really sure. I love what I do, I’ve been here 10 years, so I imagine I will continue to do exactly what I’m doing now and grow as a person and a business woman, perhaps taking on even more responsibility in my current field.

Q:What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

A: I am learning American Sign Language; most people don’t know about American Sign Language or that I am passionate about learning it. I already touched on the figure skating and that I grew up in the sport. Many people may not know that I coach figure skating part time. I have a crooked finger due to falling down the steps when I was younger and I’ve had jaw surgery, so that’s a little crazy.

Q:  What 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

A:  Faith, enjoyable and that I can always come back no matter what.

Q: If you were cast into a major motion picture and had your choice of anyone to be your co-star, who would you choose?

A:  It’s an interesting topic because I have been in a movie, so through the ice skating I was in “I, Tonya” as an extra and that was fun. I was cast as Nancy Kerrigan choreographer, and that was a totally unique experience. As far as co-stars, I really don’t go to the movies that often and so I don’t really know who I would want as my co-star.

Q: If you had a full time staff member that was fully paid for, who would you choose?

Chef, Housekeeper, Driver, Coach, Physical Fitness Trainer, or Nanny?

A:  Definitely a Physical Fitness Trainer.
