Craig Kidd

MEET CRAIG KIDD! He moved to Rivermont subdivision in the southern part of Johns Creek in 1981. His family purchased a home in the 1st subdivision in Georgia that was build by the Cupid family. Craig’s parents were members of the Tennis and Golf Club. Attending Holcomb Bridge Middle School and Crestwood High School, Craig was redistricted to Chattahoochee High School where he was part of the 1st graduating class of 1992 (when Crestwood HS closed). He believes that the schools in Johns Creek are the primary reason why people move here. He makes it his mission to retain a good connection between the city and the John Creek schools. Craig is always willing to give a helping hand to the schools and is supported by the Mayor of Johns Creek. A loving son, husband and a father, Craig is a very dedicated man in the Johns Creek community, as you will earn here in his interview.

Q: What inspired you or led you to your current career?

A: Since College, I have been fascinated by why people vote the way they do or simply stated, what makes people the way do about current events. My love for history as a kid made politics an easy transition.

Q: What is your favorite restaurant in Johns Creek, and what do you love there?

A: Despite loving food, I don’t really have a favorite restaurant. I like simple and easy. I do appreciate Santino’s by Newtown Park.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in Johns Creek?

A: My family moved here in 1981 when I was seven. Except for college, a short time in DC, and then Buckhead doing the single-man thing. I’ve lived here in Johns Creek ever since.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Johns Creek?

A: That is hard to say since I’ve lived here for so long. I’m going to substitute “interesting” for “best” and say Lynne Riley, our former County Commissioner, former state Representative and former Revenue Commissioner and current state Treasurer. Lynne has meant a lot to me.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?

A: Gibraltar. I’m an amateur Anglophile, and I want to see one of the symbols of British power and dominate on the world stage. Plus my wife has already been to London and Great Britain itself so Gibraltar maybe more attractive to her.

Q: What is your favorite movie OR what is the first movie you remember seeing in a theater?

A: My favorite movie is a tie between The Sting (1973) and The Blues Brothers (1980). I cannot think of two more different movies.

Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?

A: Specialization. The key to success in life is specialization.

Q: Aside from travel, what is something on your bucket list?

A: Write a history book.

Q: What is your favorite music/ 3 bands you would like to see (dead or alive)?

A: I’d love to see The Doors in the prime. I just hope it is one of the performance where Jim Morrison is coherent.

Q: What current / former local business makes you the most nostalgic about Johns Creek?

A: The grocery store “Big Star” at the intersection of Nesbitt Ferry and Holcomb Bridge. If I can pick one outside of Johns Creek, it is Dagwood’s in Spalding Corners, it’still there and it still has great sandwiches.

Q: Choosing anyone alive and a non-relative: with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? Where in Johns Creek would you have lunch?

A: Impossible call. I’d say David Eisenhower as he would have stories about his grandfather Ike and his father in law Richard Nixon. The list of living is pretty short. The peril of being an amateur historian.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Johns Creek?

A: The belief that it is the best place to raise children. Nothing about this city can limit you.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 or 10 years?

A: If not still at City Hall, then lobbying at the state capitol.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

A: Silence concerns me.

Q: What 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

A: Comfort. Safety. Warmth

Q: If you were cast into a major motion picture and had your choice of anyone to be your co-star, who would you choose?

A: Jennifer Connolly

Q: If you had a full time staff member that was fully paid for, who would you choose? Chef, Housekeeper, Driver, Coach, Physical Fitness Trainer, or Nanny?

A: Trainer. Definitely would fit the biggest need.
